Pastor Dick Jackson announced his retirement to Highway’s Advisory Board on June 3. Following a lengthy meeting, the board appointed associate pastor Mike McDonald to serve as Interim pastor and committed to having him be the first candidate considered for the position of senior pastor. He would be presented to the congregation only if the board believed that he was the right candidate.
Over the past 11 weeks, the board has prayed diligently and earnestly sought the Lord’s direction in this matter. We have spent many hours in conversations with Mike. We have discussed his vision and his passion for our church. His vision aligns with that of Pastor Emeritus Dick Jackson and the board, and we are confident that Mike is ready to take on the mantle of leadership of the church. Therefore, we are pleased at this time to recommend, unanimously and wholeheartedly, interim pastor Mike McDonald to be the senior pastor.
The final decision will be made by the active members of the congregation through a vote of the members present at a special business meeting to be held on Sunday, September 8, immediately following the Sunday morning service.
This is a crucial decision for our church which should be made only after much prayer. We want to encourage each of you to take time for extended prayer regarding this decision over the next three weeks. We will also open the church for times of corporate prayer on the dates and times listed below:
– Wednesday evenings (8/21, 8/28, and 9/4) from 9 pm-10 pm
– Sunday afternoons (8/25 and 9/1) from 3 pm-4 pm
– Tuesday evenings (8/27 and 9/3) from 7 pm-8 pm.
